Vietnam, my motherland, is writhing in suffering and pain.

Why is its people still so unconcerned.

The Spratly Island, have recently been robbed by the enemies.

The Bản Giốc Waterfalls, and Nam Quan Pass

had been split into half, with half owned by the Chinese.

O My Vietnam, a land with five thousand years of history.

But now we’ll soon be losing our motherland country.

Our motherland’s  territory is fast dwindling

but why are people’s hearts still so uncaring.

Do you hear the seething anger of our homeland’s mountains and rivers

calling on its people to chase out the invaders.

Do you hear the voice of Mother Vietnam

urging its people to be united

to fight against the enemies

to protect our country,

to repossess our sea islands.

Let’s rise up and make blood vows

to protect our homeland to be worthy

of being the descendants of the Dragon King, Lạc Long Quân and 

Âu Cơ, a mountain goddess.

O Vietnam, we had long been separated from each other.

My heart’s in distress with deep longing and sorrow.

I’m afraid that some day I’ll be buried on foreign soil.

But my homeland, still so ragged and battered...

O Vietnam! O my motherland, thousands of miles away, in a hazy fog,

and I will not be able to see it a free land anymore.

O Vietnam, the memories of you as you were, fill my heart.
